RTC Fitness 25.1 Recap: Tie-Dye, Team Spirit & One Unforgettable Night
Ladies and gentlemen, CrossFitters and cheer squads, welcome to Week 1 of the RTC Fitness Intramural Open! The 2025 season kicked off with an electric Friday Night Lights that had high energy, high reps, and high levels of community spirit. Our gym was packed, the tie-dye theme was in full force, and the first Open workout delivered a challenge that tested endurance, pacing, and grit.
The Showdown: Open Workout 25.1
Workout Format: 15-Minute AMRAP
- 3 Lateral Burpees Over the Dumbbell
- 3 Dumbbell Hang Clean-to-Overheads
- 30-Foot Walking Lunge (2 x 15 feet)
- After each round, increase the burpees and clean-to-overheads by 3 reps.
A surprisingly accessible start to the Open, 25.1 required smart pacing, smooth transitions, and a willingness to embrace the burn. The biggest surprise? No weight on the lunges!

The Highlights
- From the first timer to the seasoned veteran, every athlete showed up and gave it their all. The RTC Kids joined heat one with the adults for the first time ever, bringing even more energy to the floor.
- Kids who participated:
- Jared W (his first Open!), Nora S, Quin T, Cora R, Riley R, Michael H
- Meanwhile, Melissa S made the tough but smart call to sit out this week, prioritizing her back health. A reminder that sometimes, the best decision is to listen to your body.
- And we couldn’t let this recap slide without a shoutout to Coach Reed, who took the floor for one final FNL at RTC before heading off to Training Think Tank in Georgia to chase his dream. Honorable mention, and best of luck, Coach Reed!
- Coach Olivia stepped up in a big way, filling the legendary “clock starter” Alex R’s shoes and keeping every heat running smoothly.
- And let’s not forget Hakuna MuhSQUATa, who took the tie-dye theme to the next level—nearly every team member rocked the colors!
- 📸 A huge thank you to Coach Jeanine Booker for capturing all the amazing moments from FNL! Check out the Album in Our Member Group!
Honoroable Mentions:
- Congrats to our open first timers:
- Becca W, Caity R, Ryan W, Jared W, Lauren S, Tara F, Matt S, Ryan H
- Nour K earned the “Spirit of the Open” award for completing the lunges RX after months of focused progression work.
- Coach Jenny had a big mental win, staying focused in an Open WOD despite being off her projected pace.
- Ang Y completed their first RX Open WOD in years during 25.1.
- Mandi S opted out of the Open to stay focused on her program but showed up with Jeff to cheer everyone on at FNL!
- Shelly B, Bruce F, and Shawn B were official judges for FNL even though they aren’t competing in the Open this year.
- Natalie P received a Spirit of the Open mention for pushing through self-doubt and showing up with determination.
A Colorful Twist: The Team Trivia Competition
After the heats wrapped up at FNL, the teams faced off in a wildly entertaining trivia competition that kept the competitive spirit alive.
A total of 10 general knowledge questions plus an intense lightning round led to a tie for second place—Gym & Juice and High Spirits each answered 25 of 30 questions correctly. But the ultimate trivia champions? Hakuna MuhSQUATa edged out the win with 26 correct answers!
Some of the standout trivia moments?
- Apparently, our teams really know their Barbie movie facts but struggled a bit with basic geography.
- The classic “how many dots are on a six-sided die” question threw off more than a few competitors (the answer is 21).
- A surprising number of athletes didn’t know a baby goat is called a kid—and now we all do!
Trivia at FNL? A massive success. Stay sharp, RTC—who knows what next week will bring!
Team Rivalries: The Sleepover Showdown
This year’s teams brought their all, not just in performance, but mostly in good tie dye…and boy do we have a tight race after week one!

Looking Ahead
As we set our sights on 25.2, remember, the Open is more than just workouts. It’s a celebration of our community, a test of our progress, and a chance to create memories that will last a lifetime (or at least until the muscle soreness fades).
So, whether you’re here to compete or cheer on your mates, remember: every rep counts, every cheer matters, and every moment is a chance to be a part of something bigger than ourselves.
What’s Next: Friday Night Lights 25.2
As we look to the horizon, 🔥 One thing is for sure—the energy will be electric, the competition fierce, and the RTC community stronger than ever.
Get ready, RTC. We’re just getting started.
