CONTRAST THERAPY

A centuries-old, revered tradition, diligently practiced by elite athletes (and, more recently) Wim Hof fans, this health-boosting process of first, dipping into icy cold water then immediately contrasting that with a sauna’s radiant heat, startles your mind, body, and immune system to new levels of supreme function!

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT CONTRAST THERAPY

Cold plunge therapy gives your tired muscles a boost, burns calories, reduces swelling, and relieves sports injuries and chronic pain. The combination of hot and cold stimulates your lymphatic system to peak performance and improves your overall immune response.

More freely moving lymph fluid translates into increased detoxification: heightened white blood cells rally to attack unwelcome bacteria and viruses, warding off infection. Contrast therapy also promotes your body’s antioxidants, including star player glutathione, pumping up all immune cell function.

Zingy, uplifted energy sifted together with peaceful, serene calm are additional rewards: taking the plunge into cold and hot therapy means feeling new rushes of vital feel-good hormones serotonin and dopamine. Relaxation will cascade down your entire body and revitalize your entire being.

And feel the energy. Taking the plunge into cold and hot therapy will give your body an invigorating rush of feel-good hormones serotonin and dopamine. That’s why contrast therapy is one of our most sought-after relaxation therapies here at RTC Pause.

WHAT TO EXPECT WITH PAUSE CONTRAST THERAPY

Hot and cold contrast therapy services may sound intimidating but the positive benefits for your body—including an incredible burst of energy and tension relief—make every minute worth it. Here’s how the process works:

HOT: Enjoy nine minutes in one of our relaxing, full-spectrum infrared saunas, where you’ll get the benefits of heat all the way down to the cellular level

COLD: Restore your blood flow with cryotherapy as you plunge into the sanitary, refreshing 60-degree ice water for three minutes

REST: Now take three minutes to relax as your body eases into homeostasis

REPEAT: We recommend a 60-minute session for maximum benefits, allowing you to cycle between hot and cold four times. Each time, the results are more profound. However, if you want to start small or are short on time, we also offer a 30-minute contrast therapy appointment, giving you enough time to complete the hot-cold cycle twice.

Book a private session for yourself or consider hot/cold therapy as a unique gift for your friends.

INFRARED SAUNA

Sweat It Out In Our RTC Sauna

Detox, soothe sore muscles, and get all of the sun’s plentiful benefits, without the damage. Our safe and effective, full-spectrum infrared saunas deliver heat all the way to your body core and eliminate toxins.

DETOX. PURIFY. GLOW. BEAUTIFY.

Embrace self-care and treat yourself to the many beauty and health benefits our infrared sauna offers.

DETOX AND REDUCE PAIN

Detox your body from stressful city life. Often used as a complement to our vitamin IV drip cocktail, our infrared sauna is an effective way to flush out the toxins that are holding you back from achieving optimal health. Infrared heat also helps reduce chronic pain and stiffness with regular visits.

BURN CALORIES

Burn up to 600 calories during your spa treatment in the infrared sauna. Your body’s detoxification processes will kick in to keep itself cool, boosting both your cardiac rate and metabolism and helping to aid digestion.

While body fat is important for storing energy and protecting vulnerable internal organs, excess fat can harbor unwanted waste and toxins. One detoxification session in our infrared sauna helps you sweat and flush out harmful detritus, boosts immunity, moisturizes your skin and gives you a healthy glow, and burns hundreds of calories.

PURIFY YOUR SKIN

Sweating dilates blood vessels and awakens collagen, which in turn firms your skin and softens wrinkles. If you suffer from acne, eczema, psoriasis, or another skin ailment, or simply want to glow, enjoy the infrared heat’s healing rays, which open your pores and purify your skin, providing clearer skin and relief.

BOOST YOUR IMMUNITY

When you’re ill, a fever is the body’s response to kill off viruses and bacteria. Similarly—and much more pleasantly—sweating in our infrared sauna bar lifts your immunity by mimicking the same defense response. Book an amazing detox session today.

EMBRACE RELAXATION

Warm environments naturally promote relaxation. Healing infrared heat naturally melts away anxiety and body tightness, balancing stress hormones and producing profound calm. Rejuvenate and improve your overall health with a quick visit to our private suite.

RECOVER FROM WORKOUTS, FASTER

Numerous athletes take their workout to the next level in our classes. Infrared saunas are a key part of a well-rounded health routine, helping you increase circulation, stretch more deeply and increase mobility. Infrared light therapy helps you relax muscle soreness away and increase recovery in ways that a conventional sauna can’t.

HOW INFRARED SAUNAS WORK

The air in a traditional sauna is heated, and that hot air, in turn, heats your body, but it does not penetrate your skin. Infrared saunas produce heat through a penetrating wavelength, that is able to enter your body’s soft tissue and deliver the benefits on a cellular level.

The infrared, radiant heat from our saunas deeply penetrates achy joints, tired muscles, and frayed connective tissues. Helping you recover faster, breathe easier, and enjoy a beautiful glow. In the same, holistic way that the sun’s warm rays stimulate the flow of oxygen and healthy heart rate, our saunas do so in the comfort of a beautiful, inviting space.

INFRARED TECHNOLOGY: IT’S ALL IN THE SCIENCE

Everyone needs body fat to store energy, and to cushion and protect vulnerable internal organs. However, deep body fat also harbors some unwanted elements, such as waste and toxins.

Just one session in our saunas flushes out harmful detritus, boosts immunity, moisturizes, heals, refreshes skin (you’ll look dewy!), and burns away hundreds of calories.

CHROMOTHERAPY: COLOR ME LIGHT

It’s no secret that different lights and colors provoke a range of emotional responses in people: advertisers tilt the color wheel towards hues that impel you to eat or buy.

In fact, even hospitals and clinics incorporate certain tints for dramatic therapies and intensive healing. Our soothing infrared light, infracted with just the right color elements, cures skin ailments, dissolves depression, eliminates chronic pain, and balances immune disorders.

Red Light Therapy

What is Red Light Therapy?

Beginning in the early 1990s as a tool to help grow plants in space, red light therapy, or RLT, is a technique used to help promote healthy cell growth and regeneration. Today’s practice of red light therapy extends to humans and can be used in the treatment of a wide range of issues such as skin conditions and wound healing. There are many ways to utilize this therapy by simply placing red light technology near your body, from light towers and saunas to handheld devices and face masks. Red light therapy can also be used to activate photosensitizing medications for photodynamic therapy.

Red light therapy works by using red low-level wavelengths of light to produce a biochemical effect in cells by penetrating approximately 5 millimeters below the skin’s surface. This effect helps strengthen the mitochondria and increase cell energy to improve performance of cells. Stronger cells increases productivity and effectiveness for proper rejuvenation and damage repair. Overall, the body uses these boosted cells to increase healing time and improve the condition of ailments caused by degenerative cells.

Risks of Red Light Therapy

No severe side effects are associated with RLT, and it is considered a safe and pain-free treatment. In the case of minor red light therapy side effects, some have reported headaches, irritability, and eye strain. The main cause of these red light therapy risks is the intense color or brightness of the light, which can be avoided by protecting your eyes during your RLT session and avoiding staring directly into the light.

Red Light Therapy Benefits

Research on red light therapy benefits is still in the early phases, but current studies and anecdotal evidence show promise for the effectiveness of the treatment. Red light therapy can be used to help treat many conditions and improve overall health.

Some of the main benefits of red light therapy include:

athletic performanceeyesightmood
autoimmune diseaseshair growthpain
brain disordershealingrelaxation
cancer therapy side effectsheatingskin conditions
cellulitehormone productionsleep
cognitive functioninflammationtissue regeneration
detoxificationlibidoweight loss

The use of red light therapy is especially popular amongst athletes seeking help for joint pain and inflammation, physical performance, and skin health. While many people begin RLT to target one symptom, they often find many other red light therapy benefits that make it worthwhile to add to their regular routine.

Combining the Powers of Red Light and Infrared Therapies

Full spectrum infrared therapy involves using infrared waves to penetrate into the body. These waves promote healthy function of the body’s cells and in turn improve healing, circulation, and detoxification. Infrared heat therapy penetrates nearly 5 centimeters into the skin, making it a perfect therapy to use in conjunction with red light therapy that penetrates 5 millimeters. By combining the therapies, you allow multiple levels of your body to heal and rejuvenate.

How to Use Red Light Therapy

Using red light therapy can be an incredible benefit in your life, and is an easy way to find relief for many ailments. With virtually no risk and high reward, using the powers of red light therapy and infrared therapy might be the right therapeutic path for you. If you have any concerns or more severe health issues, be sure to consult with your doctor for the right approach and treatment plan.

COLD PLUNGE

WHY COLD PLUNGE?

Energy
Everybody has their own method for waking up; double shots of espresso, a quick workout, and so on. If you’re looking for a quick start to your morning, however, cold plunging might just be the answer. Many people turn to cold plunging when looking for a new way to boost their daily energy!

As noted in Dr. Rhonda Patrick’s report “Cold Shocking the Body: Exploring Cryotherapy, Cold Water Immersion, and Cold Stress” plunging into cold water triggers the production of the neurotransmitter norepinephrine, a critical chemical in the body that helps regulate attention, focus, and energy! A daily cold plunge can help increase your levels of norepinephrine, simultaneously increasing your energy.

Resilience
Just like an intense workout pushes the limits of your body, a quick cold plunge every day can push the limits of your mind! Believe us, it can be difficult to make that first plunge into an ice-cold tub, but the payoff is amazing.
Each day that you return to the plunge, you’ll find it easier and easier to hop in, until you reach the day where you can’t wait for that icy rush of energy. A habit of cold plunging can do wonders for your mental and physical toughness.

Physical Recovery
Cold plunge benefits extend beyond the mental and chemical aspects of your body too. Sports medicine has utilized cold water therapy for years, to help the active recovery of your muscles. Studies have shown a connection between cold plunging, and blood vessel constriction, meaning that when we enter cold water, our blood vessels will shrink, bringing our blood flow closer to the vital organs. After leaving the cold plunge tub, our blood vessels re-open, which not only improves circulation but also helps to flush out parts of our immune system! Post-workout or not, the physical benefits of cold therapy are well worth your time.

Discipline
Most of us have trouble with building habits; it’s why so many New Year’s Resolutions go unfulfilled. At first glance, cold plunging might not seem any easier to stick to, but it’s simpler than it appears. The key is sticking to a schedule.

If you stick to a cold plunge schedule, you might find habit building a whole lot easier! Because a cold plunge only takes about 5 minutes each day, you can turn it into a routine pretty easily, and once you have one habit built, the next one is that much easier.

Mood
Remember the hormone norepinephrine from above? Researchers have known for a while that it connects to our daily energy, but in recent studies, they have found that it may help with our moods as well. In particular, there is more and more evidence that a lack of norepinephrine can contribute to depression, meaning that a cold plunge might help to reduce depression and improve overall mood! Though there is still plenty of research to be done, there’s no denying the boost of endorphins you get from a daily plunge.

Destress and Sleep
When you dip into the Plunge, your body triggers the autonomic nervous system. This system is a network of vessels and nerves, split into two parts that control your response to stress. The first part, the sympathetic nervous system, triggers your “fight or flight” response, while the second part, the parasympathetic nervous system, helps to shut it down once the stress has passed. By enduring this stress on your body daily, you can begin to train both systems to your benefit. When you begin to control your response to stress, you’ll likely find that you can also control your relaxation and sleep.
