This program is intended for anyone interested in learning more about Olympic Weightlifting, in particular the snatch and the clean & jerk.
The focus here will be on building motor patterns through deliberate repetition. As I’m sure you’ve heard – “Practice makes permanent.” We want that ‘permanent’ to be sound, efficient, and safe technique. And we want to see you set some new PRs!
Here are some of the things that you can expect to be emphasized:
- Snatch technique
- Clean & Jerk technique
- Accessory Work
- Usage of blocks as needed
- And Feedback of course
How it works?
The RTC Barbell Club runs in 4 – 8 week cycles throughout the year. Each session will be open to a certain number of members and coaching hours will vary throughout the year to accommodate as many people as possible.
Our first session (with Coach Gavin) will be 8 weeks long beginning June 30, 2022 and ending August 18, 2022. Open lifting will be every Thursday from 4 to 5:30p with coaching hours from 4:45 to 5:30pm.
That means you can warmup and start working through your programmed work anytime after 4 and receive feedback while the coach is on the floor from 4:45 to 5:30 (see below for more info).
Who is it for?
You don’t have to lift a ton of weight to join, you just need a basic understanding of what the Olympic Lifting fundamentals are and want to receive feedback and spend some focused time each week developing your lifts and strength outside of CrossFit class or other exercise you attend.
**We ask that you have the appropriate mobility and strength to safely to execute Olympic Lifts (see below).
Who is eligible in this cycle?
If you are interested in coming to barbell club you must meet the following criteria:
- Be an active member of RTC for the past 4 months (or have 4+ months of prior weightlifting experience) OR have tested out of a RTC specialty weightlifting course
- Be able to properly execute both the clean & jerk and the snatch
***Don’t meet these criteria, or have reservations about joining? Don’t worry, technique courses are in the works as well!! Hang tight!
